Hard to Be Me is the story of Kevin Hamilton (Edward Robert Bach), a second year art-college student, who likes to express himself through his art. When his COMM 101 teacher turns out to be the intimidating Dr. Candice Wilkes (Kelli Biggs) rather than a lowly grad student, Kevin is thrown for a loop. Things go from bad to worse when Dr. Wilkes assigns a weekly video-log ("vlog") instead of a final exam. Suddenly, not only does Kevin have to use coherent words to pass his course, he must do so on a weekly basis while mastering the technology.

During the course of Kevin’s exploration, we meet his quirky art school friends, and his loving, yet slightly unusual, family. The episode is shown from multiple perspectives, including three girls in a coffee shop viewing the finished vlog, Kevin’s “real-time" making of the vlog plus his interactions with his friends, and a retired couple who are learning about the technology for the first time.
